ARE YOU GUILTY OF THESE BAD HVAC HABITS?

Gent Heating & Cooling

1 - Closing Vents & Registers

The whole point of having an HVAC system is to heat or cool your home. If you close vents or registers you are adjusting the amount of space that needs to be heated or cooled. This makes your equipment work in a different way than it is used to which can lead to it running for longer than needed, resulting in burnt out components and a shorter life for your system. Whenever we install HVAC in Knoxville we try to discuss these issues with the customer and suggest zoning if they feel they may want different temperatures in different areas of the home.

2 - Obstructing Ventilation

Another bad habit we see alot of is customers blocking airflow from ventilation with plants, toys, shoes, and even furniture. This is going to decrease efficiency and performance and if it continues over a long period of time it could overwork your HVAC equipment and cause an expensive emergency repair that could have been avoided. Keeper that ventilation clear!

3 - Not Changing Your Air Filters

Air filters are a crucial part of your HVAC syste as they help to improve the indoor air quality in your home. However, these do dry out and get clogged with dirt and debris which will reduce the airflow and lower your air quality. Filter should be changed on a monthly basis. It is usually very easy to do and the filters are inexpensive. Get into the habit of changing them regularly and you will be surprised at the difference it makes.

4 - Not Doing Preventative Maintenace

One of the worst habits many of our HVAC clients have is a failure to invest in preventative maintenance. Having your HVAC looked at once or twice each year by a professional technician to do preventative maintenance and scope out any small issues that need fixed before they grow into major repairs. This can save you money in the long run and also help your HVAC system to last longer!
