What to Look For When Switching Your Heating On This Winter

Gent Heating & Cooling

Winter will be with us before we know it! Although the weather is still mild, it is worth switching on your heating now to make sure that it is still working effectively. The last thing you want is to discover your heat isn't working on the first truly cold day! Here are a few tips to look out for:

  • If you haven't used your heating for a while, it is normal to experience a nasty odor for the first hour or so - this is just the dust that has settled is burning away.
  • Check your Freon levels - the less Freon your system has in Winter, the higher your electricity bill is going to be. Low Freon means inefficient heating.
  • If you have gas, make sure there are Carbon Monoxide detectors on each floor of your home and that they are working properly.
